What is user behavior and why it should matter to you?

User behavior explains how your website visitors think and make decisions while browsing through your website. Your website is like your store, customers visit it and make their decisions based on various stimuli they are presented with. Moreover, tracking user behavior on your website is useful because you can see the exact actions your visitors took on your website. This can include clicks, scrolling, searches, and so on. with various conversion rate optimization tools you can analyse the behavior of your users and extract valuable information which can help you.

Factors you should pay attention to when analyzing user behavior:

1. How visitors use your site

Analyze what is the main goal of your visitors and what are they doing on your website. Explore how and where they click, scroll, and engage. Moreover, check where your visitors come from. In order to improve how your visitors interact with your website, you should guide them. This can be done by adding various “call to action” buttons. Determine what you want your visitors to do and then make pathways by adding CTAs which will guide them to accomplish the end goal.

2.Analyze data

There are many user behavior tools which you can use to track how your visitors interact with your website, for example our company uses Hotjar. You can explore heatmaps for each of the pages on your website. By doing this, you can see where do most of your visitors click and what interests them. Moreover, you can also look at the bounce rates for each of your pages which will tell you if there is something wrong with a specific page.

3. Adapt your website according to the data collected

Once you have established the weak points of your website, you can adapt accordingly and fix any issues that might interfere with the whole user experience. In fact, you should explore your possibilities on how to fix your problems. Create a list of possible solutions which can be implemented.

4. Determine metrics

During this process you should define important metrics which are crucial for your website’s performance. Your metrics should be based on your website’s goals. Once you defined the metrics you will be monitoring, you are ready to start with testing.

5. A/B testing

A/B testing is a powerful tool that helps you implement and monitor changes on your website. Let’s suppose you can’t decide between two CTA designs. You can perform A/B tests in order to see which design performs better.

6. Implementation & monitoring

The final step is implementing the optimal solutions for your website. Nevertheless, you should continue to monitor the behavior of your visitors so that you can make additional improvements if necessary.
